Your mind is a garden.Your thoughts are the seeds. You can grow flowers or you can grow weeds. Have you realized the seed thoughts that are floating around in your head on a daily basis? Are the majority of these negative or positive thoughts? If you are experiencing anxiety, then a majority of them are negative in nature and they directly affect your anxiety level. Negative thoughts increase anxiety levels and positive thoughts decrease anxiety. This is due to the fact that negative thoughts cause a release of stress hormones in the body, which results in a cascade of events, one of which is increased mental activity. As a result, your mind continues racing with even more thoughts then it can handle. In order to calm your anxiety, you need to start thinking positive or quiet your mind. It is far easier to go from negative thoughts to positive thoughts, then to go from negative thoughts to a quiet mind. As a result, I will discuss thinking positive.
Of course, it is easy to say think positive. Not so easy to do when you have trained your mind into the habit of thinking negatively. Now you may ask, how did I do that? Well you did it unconsciously. You were not aware of your "mind garden" and the seeds you were planting. As a result, you have built a garden of weeds. The good news is that you can build a new garden of flowers. This requires you to train your mind to think positive. In this training of the mind, you will do it consciously. There are many ways to train your mind to think positive and meditation is one of them. In addition to meditation, I practice a night-time routine that helps me to think positive. I have been practicing it for over 6 months now and I really notice a difference in my thoughts.
