What is the best type of meditation for anxiety and stress?

I feel that the best type of meditation for anxiety and stress is one that feels right for you and resonates with you. When you find a meditation practice that is enjoyable to you, then you are more likely to continue doing it and reap the benefits of a quiet mind. I feel all types have one thing in common, they train your mind to focus, regardless of what method is used. When your mind is focused, it naturally quiets the mind. It releases you from the borage of thoughts that have been your norm up to that point.

All forms of meditation, also raise your vibration because when you focus, you let go and allow higher source energy to enter. This releases old blockages, old thought patterns and realigns your body to accept even more higher vibrational energy (healing). In essence, it causes your body, mind and spirit to heal. To put this in a more scientific way, when your mind is quiet, you are in a more parasympathetic (relaxed) state. This is due to the fact that the release of stress hormones are reduced. You are reducing the stress hormones, because the stressful thoughts that cause it to be released are reduced.

Meditation types and benefits

I teach mindfulness and qigong meditation because these forms have resonated with me. They have and continue to help me relieve stress and anxiety. My mind feels more at peace then when I started my practice many years ago. I have tried other forms, however, I kept coming back to mindfulness and qigong.

I like mindfulness because of the easy transition from doing the formal meditation practice and bringing mindfulness into your daily routine. When you are mindful, you are consciously aware of the moment, in a non-reactive, non-judgmental and open-hearted way. This is beneficial because it allows for the "disconnect" between the "true you" and your thoughts. You begin to be aware that you are more than your thoughts. This has profound effects on your healing on all levels. Keep in mind though, that other forms of meditation will also do the same.

I like qigong, because it is an entire system of healing. It is an ancient Chinese health system of healing and energy medicine. It has many aspects of mindfulness, which makes it very complimentary. I also like the ebb and flow of the moving qigong meditations that I do. When you do the moving meditations, you can feel the energy within you and the energy of the universe. It is a great sensation and reminds you that we are all connected and are all energy.

Just so we are on the same page, let's be clear about meditation though. You can define meditation as focus to the point that all other stimuli diminish from your awareness. As a result, you can be in a "meditative state" while focused on something that is non-beneficial to you, such as an anxious thought about the future. In that respect, when I speak of meditation, I am speaking of a formal meditation practice that is beneficial.
