![Qigong for anxiety](https://www.seekwithinyou.com/images/light_energy.jpg "Qigong for anxiety")

Think of the body as energy or better yet as a highway of energy with energetic routes. The energy that flows through these energetic routes can normally pass through at a high rate, however, when there is a blockage, the energy cannot flow. This leads to an imbalance of energies in the body. The flow of Qi or energy can be interrupted by several factors, including anxiety, stress, anger, fear or grief. When this occurs, disharmony in the body occurs. The only way to bring the body back into balance is to release the blockage and allow the energetic highway to flow as it normally does.

Qigong exercises consist of a series of orchestrated practices including body posture, movement, breathing, and meditation, all of which have been designed to enhance Qi function—that is, to draw upon natural forces to optimize and balance energy within, through the attainment of deeply focused and relaxed states.

Doing qigong can help relieve anxiety because it balances and releases blockages in organs that TCM traditionally associates with anxiety. These are the Heart which is associated with the Shen or spirit, the Liver with anger, the Spleen with excessive worry, the Kidney with fear and the Lung with grief and anxiety.
