what-is-meditation

Meditation is focus.  Meditation trains the mind.  Train your mind to focus through the art of meditation.

Definition

In basic terms meditation is focus. It is focus to the point that all other stimuli diminish from your awareness.  This means that you have your attention centered on something so much that all else fades from your awareness. Meditation used in this context means that a person can be in a state of meditation for anything. For instance, one can be in a meditative state thinking about something that happened at home they did not like or one can be in a meditative state feeling love.  As you can see, it is most desirable to actively put your focus on something that feels good to you.

Meditation naturally quiets the mind.  This is due to the fact that your focus is so intent on what you are doing that you naturally slip into a state of non-thinking.  Based on this explanation, meditation can also be described as a process of non-thinking.  You are literally "out of your mind", when you meditate.  This is even true when the source of the meditation is from thinking.  As you think of something so intently where all other stimuli diminish, you eventually "slip into the gap" of non-thinking.

Meditation is not a religion, however, certain religions or spiritual beliefs such as Buddhism, Taoism, and Islam practice meditation as part of their religion or spiritual practice.  The religion of Christianity also practices a type of meditation in the form of prayer.

Video-Train your Mind to Focus

You can train your mind to focus in meditation. It is a fallacy to think that you cannot meditate because you cannot focus. Meditation teaches you to focus. It is all a training of the mind. The more you train your mind, the easier it gets.

What you believe you achieve. If you continue to believe that you cannot do it, then so shall it be. If If you start to train your mind that you can do it, then so shall it be.

Types of Meditation Taught

Mindfulness meditation and Qigong are the two methods taught at Seek Within You.

Mindfulness meditation involves learning to be fully aware of your thoughts, feelings and actions in each moment without judgement.

Qigong (also spelled chi gong or chi kung) is an ancient Chinese health system of healing and energy medicine. Qigong is a system practiced for health maintenance, healing and increasing vitality. It is the art and science of using breathing techniques, gentle movement, and meditation to cleanse, strengthen, and circulate qi.  Regular Qigong practice leads to better health, vitality and a quiet mind.
